Declaration before Initiation of John Compton Cavendish, 4th Baron Chesham. He served in World War I as Captain, 10th Hussars, and in World War II as Squadron Leader, RAF Volunteer Reserve. Here he is at the races in 1929 with his first wife, Margot. Below is the page from the minute book recording his Initiation. |
Declaration before Initiation of Michael Wentworth Beaumont, MP. He was educated at Eton College and later at Sandhurst. He served in the Coldstream Guards and later in the Buckinghamshire and Berkshire Yeomanry, Royal Artillary. Michael Beaumont was Conservative MP for Aylesbury from 1929 to 1938 and was appointed Deputy Leutenant of Buckinghamshire in 1938.
A summons dated 4th February 1936. The Lodge was in mourning for the deaths of King George 5th and of the Lord Cornwallis, the Deputy Grand Master. Note the dress code.
Page from the minute book of 10th October 1940 recording the request of the Grand Secretary for brethren in possession of Masonic Jewels to surrender them as a contribution towards the Masonic War Effort. Today's jewels are made of base metals, but many of these older jewels would have been made of gold or silver and were very valuable. Those that survive today are collectors' items.
