Rose Croix is the 18th degree of the Ancient and Accepted Rite.

The order has 33 degrees, the first three of which are equivalent to the three degrees of Craft Masonry. The 18th, 30th, 31st, 32nd and 33rd degrees are worked in full, the intermediate degrees being conferred in name only. Degrees beyond the 18th are offered only to those who have passed through the Chair of the 18th degree.

The Rose Croix ceremony begins with the conferment in name of the seventeen intermediate degrees:
  • First, Second and Third - The degrees of the Craft
  • Fourth - Secret Master
  • Fifth - Perfect Master
  • Sixth - Intimate Secretary
  • Seventh - Provost and Judge
  • Eighth - Intendent of the Buildings
  • Ninth - Elect of Nine
  • Tenth - Elect of Fifteen
  • Eleventh - Sublime Elect
  • Twelfth - Grand Master Architect
  • Thirteenth - Royal Arch of Enoch
  • Fourteenth - Grand Elect Perfect and Sublime Master
  • Fifteenth - Knight of the Sword, or of the East
  • Sixteenth - Prince of Jerusalem
  • Seventeenth - Knight of the East and West
The signs, tokens and words of the seventeenth degree are revealed to the candidate pending his Perfection in the eighteenth degree which deals with the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth

Rose Croix was until recently a purely Christian degree, but is now adjusted to allow non-Christians to participate without embarrassment. It is based upon the Easter story. In a sequence of highly mystical experiences, it expresses the passage of man through the darkest vale, accompanied and sustained by the three theological virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity. The final reception of the candidate into the abode of light is accompanied by the recovery of the lost word.

Membership is open to all Master Masons.
