What about the ladies?
Membership of Lodges under the jurisdiction of the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) is open to men only. However, two Orders exclusively for women exist in this country. These are the Order of Women Freemasons and The Honourable Fraternity of Ancient Freemasons. Additionally, The British Federation of the International Order of Freemasonry for Men and Women (Le Droit Humain) is an Order which admits both men and women. The UGLE considers these Orders irregular and does not allow inter-visiting.
However, each of these Orders take Freemasonry every bit as seriously as do the others, and in many cases use similar rituals. Although there are no formal fraternal links between them, the organisations are working together for the promotion of Freemasonry in general.
